NightChat Community Guidelines
The goal of NightChat is to assist you meet friends with whom you can have fun and share your interests and experiences. While we work very hard to keep our NightChat community creative and fun, we do have community guidelines to outline what we do and do not allow on NightChat. We're trying to foster great conversation and we will remove any content that harm that endeavor. These Community Guidelines (the "Guidelines") apply to everyone and to everything on NightChat. We proactively enforce them using a mix of technology and human moderation before content gets reported to us.
We also encourage our community members to use the tools we provide on NightChat to report any content they believe violates the Guidelines. So if you find content that shouldn’t be on NightChat, please report it to us.
In short, we do not allow any content that is violent, dangerous or illegal on NightChat, which includes anything that may harm child safety, and regulated goods. For a better user experience for everyone, we will also take actions regarding unfriendly contents, sensitive contents or spam. You should also pay attention to not spread misinformation, respect privacy and intellectual property rights of others.
Please note that although we update the Guidelines from time to time in order to cope with evolving new behaviors and risks, the Guidelines is not a complete list of contents not allowed or allowed on NightChat. We may take actions we consider appropriate or as required by relevant authorities towards contents that violate this Guidelines, other applicable rules, regulations and laws.
You can contact us via firstname.lastname@example.org for any questions regarding the Guidelines, to report a violation or to appeal for any enforcement of such violation.
i. Violent, dangerous content and illegal activities
NightChat is a safe place with zero tolerance for any violent, dangerous or illegal content that may bring potential harm to our users and the general public. While we respect your freedom of expression, we may remove contents, disable your account or report to law enforcement when we believe it is necessary.
1. Violent or graphic content
Violent or graphic content is any content that depicts death, violence, medical procedures, or serious physical injury in graphic detail. This may include:
violent crimes or accidents (including murder, robbery and booming)
physical child abuse
bodily fluids including blood, feces, semen etc
serious physical harm, including visible wounds
Animal abuse or violence
Footage, audio, or imagery involving any of the above
a. "Check out this brutal accident site! Such a blood bath!"
b. Telling other users to go to a particular place to start a street fight in your voice chat room.
2. Terrorism/violent extremism
You may not threaten or promote terrorism or violent extremism. Content intended to praise, promote, or aid terrorism/violent extremism is not allowed on NightChat. Terrorism or violent extremism organizations are also not allowed to use NightChat for any purpose, including recruitment. If you find content that violates this policy, please report it to us. If you find any user or content that may cause immediate danger, you should reach out to your local law enforcement agency to report the situation immediately.
a. Starting a voice chat room to recruit members for ISIS.
b. "The fighters for the Islamic State are really brave!" in your profile or comment.
3. Other illegal or regulated activities, such as:
Offline gambling or online gambling
Gun sale or firearms including ammunition
Drugs, controlled substances, alcohol, and tobacco
Frauds and scams.
a. Linking to an online gambling or sports betting site in your profile or your comments.
b. "DM me if you want to win big money in online casinos" in you profile or your comments.
ii. Child safety
The NightChat services are not directed to children under the age of 18 (or other age as required by local law). Any content that may harm child safety is strictly prohibited in NightChat, including:
Child sexual exploitation
Child sexual exploitation is a crime. If you see such content, report to us or report to your local law enforcement. This includes content that threatens, depicts, praises, supports, provides instructions for, makes statements of intent, admits participation in or shares links of the sexual exploitation of children (real or non-real minors, toddlers or babies).
Solicitation. This may include:
Imagery of child sexual exploitation
Nude imagery of children
Sexualized imagery of children
Real-world sexual encounters with children
Inappropriate interactions with children:
Content that constitutes or facilitates inappropriate interactions with children, such as:
Arranging or planning real-world sexual encounters with children
Purposefully exposing children to sexually explicit language or sexual material
Engaging in implicitly sexual conversations in private messages with children
Obtaining or requesting sexual material from children in private messages
Exploitative intimate imagery and sextortion.
Content that attempts to exploit minors by:
Coercing money, favors or intimate imagery with threats to expose intimate imagery or information.
Sharing, threatening or stating an intent to share private sexual conversations.
Sexualization of children.
Content that solicits imagery of child sexual exploitation, or nude or sexualized images or videos of children
Content (including photos, videos, real-world art, digital content, and verbal depictions) that shows children in a sexualized context.
NightChat groups, voice chat rooms and profiles targeted to sexualizing children.
Content that depicts child nudity where nudity is defined as:
Close-ups of children’s genitalia
Real nude toddlers, showing:
Visible genitalia, even when covered or obscured by transparent clothing.
Visible anus and/or fully nude close-up of buttocks.
Real nude minors, showing:
Visible genitalia (including genitalia obscured only by pubic hair or transparent clothing)
Visible anus and/or fully nude close-up of buttocks.
Uncovered female nipples.
No clothes from neck to knee - even if no genitalia or female nipples are showing.
Digitally-created depictions of nude minors, toddlers or babies unless the image is for health or educational purposes.
Non-sexual child abuse
Imagery that depicts non-sexual child abuse regardless of sharing intent.
Content that praises, supports, promotes, advocates for, provides instructions for or encourages participation in non-sexual child abuse.
iii. Drugs and regulated goods
Drugs and some goods are not allowed on the NightChat for legal or security reasons. This includes attempts to buy, sell, trade, donate, gift or solicit:
Drugs and controlled narcotics
Bank account passwords, stolen credit cards, or other financial information
Counterfeit documents or currency
Endangered species or parts of endangered species
Firearms and certain firearms accessories
Tabaco, nicotine, including vaping products
Pharmaceuticals without a prescription
Sex or escort services
Unlicensed medical services
Other goods that are regulated in your area.
a. "Cheap vapes in XXX area! Great deal, don't miss it! Call XXX for details!"
b. Starting a voice chat room selling explosives.
iv. Unfriendly Content
1. Hate speech
Attacking entire classes of people is just like attacking a single person, we do not allow such content on NightChat, a friendly and diverse community. We define hate speech or behavior as content that attacks, threatens, incites violence against, or otherwise dehumanizes an individual or a group on the basis of the following protected attributes:
a. Calling other users by slurs in voice chat rooms. XXX for details!"
b. Attacking other players in Mic Grab by saying their race just can't sing well.
2. Harassment & cyberbullying policies
Do not attack or insult another user. It’s not helpful and it doesn’t make NightChat a friendly place. Content that threatens individuals is not allowed on NightChat, be it physical, emotional, and/or digital harassment. This includes predatory behavior, intimidation, invading privacy, revealing other people's personal information, stalking, name calling, slurs, threatening, and/or inciting violence.
a. Sending hurtful defamatory messages to others.
b. Cyberstalking other users.
v. Sensitive content
We also reserve the right to remove any content we deem offensive. This goes for pornographic material, vile language, gore and generally gross stuff.
1. Adult Nudity & sexual content policies
Let us keep things family friendly here on NightChat. That is why we do not allow nudity, pornography, or sexually explicit content on NightChat. We also prohibit content depicting or supporting non-consensual sexual acts, the sharing of non-consensual intimate imagery, and adult sexual solicitation.
Sexual exploitation is defined as any actual or attempted abuse of a position of vulnerability, power, or trust for sexual purposes, including profiting monetarily, socially, or politically from the sexual exploitation of another. We do not permit sexually exploitative content.
Nudity and sexual activity involving adults
Nudity and sexual activity include content that is overtly revealing of breasts, genitals, anus, or buttocks, or behaviors that mimic, imply, or display sex acts. We do not allow depictions, including digitally created or manipulated content, of nudity or sexual activity. We are mindful of content that may be offensive or culturally inappropriate in certain regions or may not be suitable for users of all ages.
2. Suicide & self-injury policy
We care about the safety of our users and that is why we do not allow people to intentionally or unintentionally celebrate or promote suicide or self-injury. We do allow people to discuss these topics. If you are in distress, talk to someone and seek assistance. If you believe you or someone on NightChat is in immediate danger from suicide or self-injury, you shall contact help or law enforcement immediately.
We want NightChat to be an interesting and vibrant community, that is why we do not allow spam, whether it comes from a human or a robot. This includes self-promotion.
a. Posting autogenerated contents without quality in public areas in the app.
b. Massively messaging other users for followers.
We are not a platform for spreading conspiracy theories and misinformation, and will remove posts promoting obvious falsehoods. Such kind of misinformation may include:
Impersonation: You may not impersonate individuals, groups, or organizations in a manner that is intended to or does mislead, confuse, or deceive others.
False News: Please do not share news stories that are false. False news mean that the story itself is fabricated, with no verifiable facts, sources or quotes.
COVID-19 medical misinformation policies: content that spreads medical misinformation that contradicts local health authorities’ or the World Health Organization’s (WHO) medical information about COVID-19. This is limited to content that contradicts WHO or local health authorities' guidance on:
Social distancing and self isolation guidelines
The existence of COVID-19
a. Self-claiming yourself to be the president of the United States so that people shall follow you.
b. Asking people to join your video chat room because you have a cure to COVID-19.
Do not reveal other people's personal information. Revealing someone's private information, such as their home address, email addresses, sign-in credentials, phone numbers, passport number, or bank account information is not allowed on NightChat.
a. Warning other to watch out a user because he is a cheater by revealing such user’s name and address.
ix. Respecting Intellectual Property
You may not violate others’ intellectual property rights, including copyright and trademark. Some of your acts on NightChat may violate others intellectual property rights and we may need to delete such contents in order to protect such rights.
Examples of infringement of intellectual property are:
a. Selling or sharing copyrighted materials such as movies, songs and other forms of artwork to users on NightChat.
b. Using copyrighted material as your profile picture without the consent from the copyright owner. Sharing links to leaked movies or songs.
Other behaviors that are not listed in the Community Guidelines, but are reported by users and reviewed by the platform, are unanimously considered to be detrimental to the rights of users and NightChat, and violate the NightChat Rules.
We use AI, our human reviewer team and other mechanisms to help us identify and remove contents that violates the Guidelines. If any content or user is determined by us to be in violation of the Guidelines, we may, based on the severity of such violation and at our discretion:
1. Remove such content
We may remove any content that is in question of such violation. You will be noticed of such removal at the posing of said content or by in-app message after your post.
2. Limitation on account functions
Your account may be limited for certain functions such as posting contents in in-app public areas and direct messaging to other users. This kind of limitation may be temporally or permanently, based on the kind of violation under such account.
3. Account suspension
We may suspend your account to prevent further violation and effect on other users and the platform. The term of suspension may differ based on the severity of the violation.
4. Account closure (permanent suspension)
This is our most severe enforcement action. Permanently suspending an account will remove it from our entire platform. You may also be unable to create new accounts if we choose to do so for prevention of future violations. When we permanently suspend an account, we will notify you that you have been suspended for abuse violations, and explain which policy or policies they have violated and which content was in violation.
5. Other enforcements
Based on your violation, we may also choose other enforcements regarding the content or account in question, such as give you a warning or flag the content in question as inappropriate or explicit.
